Bergen

Wednesday 16th June 2004

The press release and reports about the City of Bergen's conversion to Linux were good to read, particularly as I was there a year ago (at an earlier stage of their explorations) on behalf of SuSE.

Press release: http://www.suse.co.uk/uk/company/press/press_releases/archive04/bergen.html.

ZDNet: http://insight.zdnet.co.uk/software/0,39020463,39157746,00.htm and

BBC World television had an item on "World Business Report" based on the story, and brought on an analyst to discuss whether Linux was a threat to Microsoft. He talked around the subject without really facing it head on. And there was the usual mix of part truths and confusions. But amazingly while there was no mention of either SuSE or Novell, the story opened with a quick film clip of someone opening a boxed copy of Red Hat 6.2!
