CSS page

Friday 8th October 2004

I've done a test version of this page using XHTML and CSS, but I'm still not happy with it. The problem is the boxes at the top of the stories - for one thing they don't display correctly in IE, but my main worry is that they don't correctly replace what was there before in the table-based layout - they should be boxes with a coloured background which grow when the text inside them grows, and which have aligned text at both ends. You're supposed to be able to do this, but the examples I've found don't do what I want. If you increase the font size in the browser you can see that it's wrong. The box doesn't really contain its contents. And if I don't specify a fixed height for the <div> that makes the box, it doesn't display properly.
