"The story that shames Britain"

Thursday 16th March 2006

Today's Independent has a detailed story about Bisher al-Rawi and Jamil el-Banna who have effectively been betrayed and abandoned by the British government. Bisher al-Rawi had acted as a go-between between MI5 and Abu Qatada. It's hard to escape the conclusion that they have been left to their fate because they are "men who knew too much", particularly in the light of reports that Abu Qatada was himself working for MI5 or at least a double agent, at the time when he was allegedly involved with those suspected of the Madrid train bombings and Richard Reid, the absurd "shoe bomber".
