The blazing tower evoked memories for many Spaniards of the September 11, 2001, attack on the World Trade Center in New York.

Perhaps it will also remind people of the extraordinary strangeness and speed of the collapse of the World Trade Center towers on that day. (Not to mention the mysterious collapse of Building 7 which was not hit by a plane and suffered only minor fire damage, but which fell very suddenly, and was only much later said to have been deliberately demolished.)
