So instead we're going to have a "narrative" supplied by the government. We've already had that. The parallel with the way an inquiry into 9/11 was at first refused is almost embarrassing ("it would be a distraction" says Charles Clarke). Of course when it did occur, the 9/11 inquiry deliberately failed to do its purported job, and reiterated the "narrative" which had already been supplied.

It is quite clear that there are at least some reasons why the Government does not want a proper investigation.
