Architecture

Wednesday 24th January 2007

Architecture is the most humane of the arts. The best architecture marries form to function, decoration to design, and creates a human scale environment of beauty and utility, linking the artificial world of work and home to the natural world in a seamless whole.

Like Venice and Bruges, Oxford and Heidelberg, in their own small way, the old market towns of Berkshire and Surrey still capture that spirit, combining new and old to create an atmosphere which is a joy to live and work in. Where once there were nurseries and market gardens, now there are nurseries of new technology, set amongst a harmonious blend of old and new.

That's why I take so much pleasure in the beauty of my lunchtime walks.
